We believe in travel.
It’s easy for your world to feel big when you never leave a small town. And it’s just as easy for the world to feel small when you do.
At its core, travel is about curiosity — curiosity about people, landscapes, foods, and customs. When we step outside our routines, we discover just how much beauty exists in our differences. That beauty reveals itself most vividly when we are willing to welcome ways of living that aren’t like our own.
This adventurous spirit lives within all of us. When we tap into it, we feel more connected — to ourselves, to each other, and to life itself.
Coming from a town like Conneaut, I once couldn’t wait to leave — to see more of the world, to learn, to feel part of something bigger. Travel taught me that the real beauty of life isn’t always “out there,” but in being fully present wherever you are. When we slow down and notice, we find meaning in the simple details — and even small moments of discomfort can become part of what makes a trip feel truly alive.
That’s why here we focus on history, family-style hospitality, and storytelling. We don’t want to pretend Conneaut is something it’s not. It isn’t a polished resort town. It’s authentic, imperfect, and deeply welcoming — and that’s what makes it extraordinary. By staying here, you’re not just renting a cottage. You’re stepping into a tradition of hospitality, helping us reinvest in the town, and experiencing the simple joys that have always made this place worth returning to.
We hope you’ll come to see it that way too.
Meet Barbara and Nate.
Barbara grew up here in Conneaut. For her, this house is a way of carrying forward 100+ years of family tradition. Nate grew up in Arkansas, and sees Conneaut with fresh eyes: a lakeshore town with grit, history, and unexpected beauty. Together, we’re blending local roots and new perspective to create a stay that feels both grounded and adventurous.
Because we live in Arkansas, Harbor Heritage House is a true community project. We’re hiring family, friends, and local neighbors to bring it all together — from the food to the hospitality to the small touches that make the house feel like home. Every add-on package, from dinners by locals to wine-and-wildlife baskets, is designed to connect you with Conneaut’s people and its story.
